Sustainable biomass
Algae has a very high growth rate compared to terrestrial plants, and low water use as almost all of the water is reused. Given these points, and the fact that there is not a very high need for energy (electricity) throughout the cultivation, algae is one of the most sustainable sources of biomass today.
Given the amount of biomass produced, it can be used for a plethora of refined products. A few examples are food additives, nutritional supplements, fertilizers, animal feeds and algal oil.
